about

Most people who know me know that my response to almost all of human history is: “What are you - twelve!!!!?”

I feel humanity is very very young, terribly immature - 200,000 to 500,000 years old at best according to some - so most people have very little ability to see the other side of any story, to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes, to empathise.

When I think how we act as a species, it is as if every single one of us is being controlled by a belligerent, self-serving, 12 year old ego (that has an enormously inflated sense of entitlement along with a inability to deny itself anything). The ego is a wonderful servant, but a terrible master, as someone once said - who I find has slipped my mind, but then, since we are dealing with ego here, I’m sure they won’t mind!

My one wish for humanity - that we grow up before we grab the matches, and “accidentally” burn the house down!

lyrics

VERSE 1:

The lights come on
He smiles and she waves
Like a vision she shimmers
Across the room
While the radio plays

She throws all her dreams in the street
Her dignity and pride lost in hopeless defeat
But in her lonely times she recalls
Nothing at all
Nothing at all

CHORUS:

We just stand in line
Doing only what we’re told
All our choices uninformed
Just like when we were twelve

And so it goes as we grow old
Although the playgrounds plated gold
Making every choice that matters
Just like we were twelve

VERSE 2:

The lights go out
He hopes and she prays
Like a hunter he paces
Around the room
While the music’s still playing

Is everyone who they should be?
Or are we all chasing our Daddy’s dreams?
And in the quiet times we recall
Daddy won’t buy us toys any more

No autotune - EVER!

You may notice I use lots of harmonies in vocal overdubs, but it is always just my voice with maybe some echo and a little bit of reverb!!!!!
