about

I wrote this at a time when I was feeling very disassociated from… well, just about everything. The various medicinal (prescription) drugs I had been given were not proving very effective, and were causing me to feel completely like I’d been wrapped up in cotton wool and cellophane.

I was thinking a lot about how much my wife, Nathalie, had to put up with, and this song came out as a result of all that confused reflection! I didn’t know if I would ever record it, because it has such a hopeless flavour, but I feel it is beautiful, and certainly it is a true reflection of my state of mind at the time.

lyrics

VERSE 1:

We dreamed a dream
And touched the sky
When nothing seemed
As black as night

The joker card was always wild

CHORUS:

You hold my hand every day
While I fade away
I wish we had years

You still love me even now
While I slip away
I hoped we’d have years and years

VERSE 2:

I have a love
That’s all I ever want
I hope it’s not a dream
That it could last forever

And be a solid thing
In all the emptiness

No autotune - EVER!

You may notice I use lots of harmonies in vocal overdubs, but it is always just my voice with maybe some echo and a little bit of reverb!!!!!
